Traveling to an All Star cheer competition is an exciting experience, but it also requires careful planning and preparation. To make the most of your trip and perform your best, here are the most important things to remember…

1. Pack Smart

Packing is one of the most important steps in getting ready for a competition. Start by creating a checklist to ensure you don’t forget anything. Make sure to include your cheer uniform, competition shoes, bows, makeup, and any accessories you’ll need. Double-check that your uniform is clean and in great condition. IF TRAVELING ON AN AIRPLANE, BRING YOUR UNIFORM WITH YOU IN A CARRY-ON, DO NOT ‘CHECK IT’!! Pack extra hair ties, bobby pins, and hairspray to keep your hair competition-ready. Don’t forget warm-up gear and comfortable clothes for downtime. Lastly, bring a small first-aid kit, snacks, and a water bottle to stay fueled and hydrated.

2. Stay Organized

Staying organized during the trip will save you from stress. Use labeled bags or compartments for your uniform, shoes, and accessories so everything is easy to find – our gym even sells ‘Uniformers’ that help keep competition uniforms in terrific condition when traveling! Keep a printed copy of the competition schedule and know when your team is performing. If your team uses an app or group chat for updates (our gym uses ‘BAND’ as an example), check it regularly for any changes. Arrive at the competition venue early so you have time to warm up and get ready without feeling rushed.

3. Plan Ahead for Travel

Whether you’re traveling by car, bus, or plane, plan your trip in advance. AGAIN! – for flights, pack important items like your uniform and shoes in your carry-on bag, just in case your luggage gets delayed. If you’re driving, map out your route and leave early to avoid unexpected delays. Always confirm hotel reservations ahead of time and know the address of the competition venue. This ensures you won’t waste time figuring things out at the last minute.

4. Take Care of Your Body

Staying healthy and energetic is crucial for performing your best. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially if you’re traveling to a location with a different climate. Eat balanced meals with protein, fruits, and vegetables to keep your energy up. Avoid heavy or greasy foods before competing. Make sure you get enough sleep the night before the competition, even if you’re feeling nervous or excited.

5. Be a Team Player

Remember that All Star cheerleading is a team sport, and your attitude affects the whole team. Be supportive of your teammates, whether they’re feeling nervous, excited, or stressed. Encourage each other to stay positive and focused. Follow your coach’s instructions, and don’t let distractions get in the way of your performance. Cheer competitions are high-energy events, but staying calm and focused will help you and your team shine.

6. Respect the Rules

Every competition has rules and guidelines, so make sure you’re familiar with them. Follow the dress code and wear the required gear during warm-ups and performances. Be respectful of judges, other teams, and competition staff. Remember, good sportsmanship is just as important as a great routine. Cheer for other teams and congratulate them on their performances. Represent your team and gym with pride and respect.

7. Capture Memories

Competitions are full of fun and memorable moments, so take time to enjoy them. Bring a camera or use your phone to capture team photos, performances, and celebrations. Many competitions have photographers or vendors selling photos and videos of routines. These make great keepsakes to look back on later. While it’s important to stay focused on competing, don’t forget to have fun with your teammates and soak in the experience.

8. Stay Positive

Not every competition will go perfectly, and that’s okay. If something doesn’t go as planned, stay positive and learn from the experience. Mistakes happen, but what matters is how you handle them. Celebrate your team’s hard work and effort, no matter the outcome. Competing is about more than just banners & trophies; it’s about teamwork, growth, and making memories with your friends.

Traveling to an All Star cheer competition can be an amazing experience when you’re prepared. By packing smart, staying organized, and taking care of yourself, you’ll set yourself up for success. Be a team player, respect the rules, and enjoy the journey. No matter the outcome, you’ll walk away with valuable lessons and unforgettable memories!!
