It certainly can be said that when it comes to all of the equipment that we have in the gym, certain pieces are more popular than others.

One of the more favorite pieces of equipment that we have is the Tumble Track.

A Tumble Track is a piece of equipment used by athletes to practice tumbling skills. It looks like a long, flat trampoline. It usually ranges from 20 to 60 feet in length and about 5 to 7 feet in width. The surface is made of a stretchy, durable material that gives athletes a good bounce. The frame is often made of steel or aluminum to provide a stable and sturdy base.

Features of a Tumble Track

Springy Surface: The main feature of a Tumble Track is its springy surface. This helps athletes jump higher and practice their skills more easily.

Safety Padding: Many Tumble Tracks come with safety padding along the edges. This padding helps prevent injuries if an athlete falls off the side.

Adjustable Tension: Some Tumble Tracks have adjustable tension settings, allowing coaches to increase or decrease the bounce according to the skill level of the athlete.

Portability: There are portable Tumble Tracks that can be inflated and deflated for easy transport. These are often used for outdoor practice or at competitions.

Benefits of Using a Tumble Track

Enhanced Training: The springy surface of a Tumble Track allows athletes to practice their skills with more height and control, making it easier to learn new skills and perfect existing ones.

Reduced Impact: Unlike hard floors, the Tumble Track’s surface reduces the impact on joints and muscles, helping to prevent injuries during practice.

Confidence Building: Because it provides a safe and forgiving surface, athletes can practice difficult skills without the fear of getting hurt, which builds confidence.

Versatility: Tumble Tracks can be used for a variety of athletic disciplines, including cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics, making them versatile training tools.

How to Use a Tumble Track

Warm-UP: Before using the Tumble Track, it’s important to do a proper warm-up. This can include stretches and light exercises to prepare the body.

Basic Skills: Start with basic tumbling skills like cartwheels and round-offs. These are good for getting used to the feel of the Tumble Track.

Advanced Skills: Once comfortable and their skills have progressed, athletes can move on to more advanced skills like handsprings & tucks. The extra bounce helps in achieving higher levels of required height and (eventually) rotation.

Spotting and Supervision: When learning new skills, it’s always a good idea to have a coach or spotter present. They can provide guidance and help ensure safety.

Cool Down: After practice, a cool-down session with stretches helps to relax the muscles and prevent soreness.

Safety Tips

Proper Setup: Ensure the Tumble Track is set up on a flat, even surface. If it’s an inflatable model, make sure it is fully inflated and secured.

Use Mats: Place athletic mats around the Tumble Track to provide additional safety in case of falls.

Supervision: Always practice under the supervision of a coach or experienced athlete, especially when attempting new or difficult skills.

Check Equipment (for general maintenance purposes): Regularly check the Tumble Track for any signs of wear and tear. Make sure the springs and frame are in good condition.

A Tumble Track is an excellent tool for athletes of all levels. It provides a safe and fun way to practice tumbling skills, reduces the risk of injury, and helps build confidence.

Whether you are a beginner learning your first cartwheel or an advanced athlete perfecting your full, a Tumble Track can enhance your training and help you reach your goals. Always remember to use it safely and under proper supervision to get the most out of your practice sessions.
